Arts marketing strategist Lakin Morgan-Baatjies joins Javett-UP!

In an exciting move, the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (Javett-UP) has appointed creative and cultural consultant Lakin Morgan-Baatjies as its new manager for strategic brand and partnerships. Specialising in arts marketing, brand positioning and business strategy, she will be connecting dots through innovative systems and creative problem-solving.

“Lakin brings an understanding of cultural policy, brand positioning and the relationship balance in the arts to Javett-UP. Her appointment will advance the team and the Centre in critical ways, particularly at this crucial juncture in the arts as the Javett-UP integrates itself into continental transdisciplinary agendas and innovations,” says Lekgetho Makola, CEO, Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria.

Morgan-Baatjies has headed up UJ Arts & Culture’s (a division of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) at the University of Johannesburg) marketing and communications for the last four years. She has been the driving force behind the division’s innovative and flexible communication strategy that took COVID-19 and the pandemic in its stride.

Over the past eleven years, Morgan-Baatjies has had a strategic focus on building arts relationships between business and the arts, stemming from her previous role as the marketing manager of Business and Arts South Africa.

Morgan-Baatjies has recently been appointed as a board member for the STAND Foundation, an independent, non-profit and public benefit entity aimed at promoting and celebrating contemporary South African dance and theatre. She is currently a MA candidate in Cultural Policy and Management at Wits University under the leadership of Munyaradzi Chatikobo.

“I am excited to join the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria team and help elevate the organisation to the next level. This is an opportunity for innovation in the ways that we utilise art as a tool for change and the Javett-UP as a space for critical conversation and engagement.” said Morgan-Baatjies.

Morgan-Baatjies will join the Javett Art Centre from 5 January 2021.
